California Department of Public Health (CDPH)

CDPH has developed online training courses offered through UC Davis Health System and CME California. Medical care providers (physicians, nurses, and physician assistants) and Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIH) can earn continuing education units for completion of courses on coccidioidomycosis and lead poisoning.

The Institute of Food Safety and Nutrition (IFSN)

IFSN) offered a monthly seminar series for Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) or Nutrition and Dietetic Technicians Registered (NDTRs). Although the seminar series is over, previous seminar recordings are still available to watch.

USPSTF Endorses Updated Breastfeeding Recommendations

Medscape offered free CME credit for primary care clinicians, obstetrician-gynecologists, nurses, and other clinicians who may influence a mother's decision to breastfeed her infant. CEU credit is no longer offered but the course is still available.

Environmental Health and Nursing

The Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments has published an open access e-textbook for nurses and other health professionals. The electronic format provides direct links to authoritative resources such as the EPA, ToxNet and WHO.

Western States Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units (WS-PEHSU)

WS-PEHSU has developed "A Story of Health," a free multi-media eBook that grounds the science of health in stories of fictional people, their families, and communities to enable readers to explore the risk factors for disease as well as how to prevent disease and promote health and resilience.

Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units (PEHSU)

PEHSUs are dedicated to increasing knowledge about environmental medicine among healthcare professionals regarding children’s environmental health. They offer various educational opportunities that include the ability to obtain continuing education.

Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) CE Certificate Process

ATSDR provides online access to complete the continuing education (CE) certificate process. This process includes registration for a course, completing the course posttest and assessment, and printing of the continuing education certificate.

ATSDR Case Studies

ATSDR Case Studies in Environmental Medicine (CSEM) offered self-instructional, continuing-education primers designed to increase primary care providers’ knowledge of hazardous substances and aid in the evaluation of patients potentially exposed to hazardous substances.

Environmental Medicine Training
University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine

Arizona's Center for Integrative Medicine has developed a new, online, interactive course on environmental medicine. It uses a case-based approach to organize and apply current research and recommendations in environmental medicine to guide our patients and their families. The course is rich in resources for patients and clinicians and provides background on several important emerging areas of research in environmental medicine that have immediate clinical relevancy. Faculty who complete the course will receive 6 hours of CME credit.
